“Indoor/Outdoor” Paintings by Susan Simons

19 Apr

There is no excuse for lethargy and boredom if you live in my home town.  This week, for example, the Howe Garden at Cheekwood is reopening after a million dollar renovation.  I went last night for a preview and let me tell you, it is scrumptious!

I’m heading over to the highly acclaimed and juried Temple Arts Festival on Saturday to check out more works by today’s featured artist, Susan Simons.  Her color saturated pieces are an indoor/outdoor experience.

“Shrinky Dinks” Works by Chris Dorosz

17 Apr

We were big “crafters” growing up.  All of this was spearheaded by my mother and older sister who can do just about anything with their hands.  Sewing, knitting, copper enameling, cooking, needlepoint, cross-stitched monogram sweatshirts, Shrinky Dinks, you name it, they would try it.

I was good at putting on the Carpenter’s album.

Artist Chris Dorosz uses a staple gun and transparent paint to create these fantastic canvases.  Just the kind of thing my sister would try to recreate.  No doubt she could pull it off successfully.

“Through the Looking Glass” Photography by Elena Kalis

15 Apr

It’s prom night for my daughter.  She is still very much Alice.  Falling down the rabbit hole of life.  So much to see and discover.  Some of it real, some of it a fantasy…most of it a Cheshire Cat.  She will always be my Queen of Hearts.

Photographer Elena Kalis captures some kind of innocence.
