“Pulp Fiction” Sculptures by Jonathan Callan

For a while there, I received stacks and stacks of catalogues.   Neiman’s, Saks, Hannah Anderson, Cabela’s, J.Crew, Anthropologie, you name it, they had my address.

My husband generously volunteered that I was to order EVERYTHING I wished from any catalogue that landed in our mailbox….as long as I did so by 7 p.m. the day it arrived.  He knows me well.   I would never be able to make up my mind that quickly!  After that, went the caveat, I was to throw out the publication.  I gotta respect how devilishly manipulative he is.   He’ll do almost anything to ensure that our house doesn’t end up starring in an episode of Hoarders!

Artist Jonathan Callan found a use for his pile of pulp.  I doubt his unique book sculptures are available from a Horchow catalogue.

  1. I WANT THESE! These pieces have resonated with me beyond any others you have written about. Just love his blog….

  2. I fell in love with Jonathan Callan’s sculpture when I saw it in Sheboygan, WI at the JMKAC in 2010. If you ever get a chance to see it in person, don’t miss it, it is wonderful! It will literally fill you with wonder…about human ingenuity and amazement at such a complete transformation of materials. I stood there staring at it, and even when I had figured out what it’s made of, I couldn’t quite believe what I was looking at how it could be so rich in color and have such a gorgeous flowy form.
