“Game On” Ceramics by Sylvia Hyman
My grandmother was an avid “gamer”. Were she still alive, she would certainly have the largest spread on Farmville. She could rip through any crossword, anagram, or Sudoku, and she never missed her standing Friday game of MahJong at the Memphis Country Club.
The only game she wouldn’t play was Bridge, which requires a partner. She had little patience for the customary post-hand evaluations that take place. She would say, “it’s just a lot of woulda, shoulda, coulda…”
Nonagenarian Artist Sylvia Hyman’s trompe l’oeil ceramic sculptures are an exercise in play.
