“Party of Two” Paintings by Signe and Genna Grushovenko

We are now in “full on summer”. The flowers are blooming their head off, my tree frogs are loud as traffic and the lightening bugs have started to twinkle in the early evening.  What could be better?  Maybe a painting by the dynamic duo, Signe and Genna Grushovenko!?

The talented couple paint together.  Genna begins their process by applying rich layers of pattern and tone to gessoed masonite or linen supports. Signe then selects an inspiration image from their extensive collection of vintage found photos, draws with oil pastel atop the abstract underlayer using the photo for reference, and completes the image with blocky ‘panes’ of oil color.

Candidly, my husband and I struggle to agree on where to go to dinner.  I find this collaboration truly remarkable.

  1. I find the faces difficult…. feel the artists just cannot manage faces.
I am reminded of cigarette ads somehow.
    These are not for me.

  2. I do not find these paintings even attractive. This team (?) simply lacks skills, as they so obviously avoid managing the subjects faces. I would suggest the issue here is the artists lack just some basic skilsl required but only acquired after years of work and training. Maybe some talent here, but work needed.
