Theo Jansen’s Strandbeesten deserve to be better known in the US. I think his genius is in marrying art with science, in his case, Darwin’s notion of natural selection. The Strandbeesten are testimony to the power of a great artist to transport us from our usual and unremarkable reality to that special realm of fantasy and imagination.
