Not Your Grandmother’s Figurines
My grandmother was a big fan of cut glass. I actually think cut glass is pretty…but not in groups of 30. She displayed part of her collection in a breakfront that was the size of a Winnebago. Every time you walked past it, there was a dangerous tinkling sound that alerted everyone in the house if you were “rough-housing”. I remember she also had some frilly, porcelain figurines tucked far in the back that had been her mother-in-law’s. I asked her about them once, and she rolled her eyes. Apparently, they weren’t her favorite.
Chris Antemann has given the form a whole new twist. Her scenes are downright naughty and certainly belong front and center rather than collecting dust in the back of a cabinet. My grandmother would approve.
