How could I have missed this?  Cotton candy was invented right here in Music City!

The two entrepreneurs responsible were serious multitaskers.  One of them, William Morrison was a noted lawyer, author, civic leader and, get this, dentist.  But not just any dentist, he was president of the Tennessee State Dental Association.

They introduced the product at the 1904 St. Louis Worlds Fair under the name “Fairy Floss”.  Sales were phenomenal with over 68,000 servings sold for the then hefty price of .25, fully half of what it costs to attend the exhibition itself.

Artist Will Cotton is no airhead.  Famous for his “sweet” scenes, he seemed the appropriate choice for a Valentine post.
