“Write On” Ball Point Pen Drawings by Il Lee

As a left-hander I am well accustomed to the so-called “sinister smudge”.   For me writing with a ballpoint pen is a messy affair.  Who thought it their right to mandate the left to right writing system, I don’t know, but a little digging into the evolution of it makes me a little suspicious.

Ancient Egyptian, Etruscan, Greek and Latin were able to be written in both directions.  Very democratic.  Arabic, Hebrew,  Chinese and Japanese prefer a right to left approach.  It seems to me that MOST of the world therefore does.  Ahem.

Artist Il Lee takes us in a new direction with his gorgeous ball point pen works.

  1. Susanne, you are exactly right. I failed both to note the copyright and Art Projects International in the post. Thank you for bringing it up. Please note that there is a link to Art Projects now permanently on the site. They have fantastic works! Wish I could have attended his show at the Metropolitan Museum!

  2. I saw the IL LEE show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. AmAzING! The drawings are as big as a wall, but I think he is represented by Art Projects International in NYC.
