“Kiss My Grits” Paintings by John Baeder
1970’s television was so charmingly predictable. Programs had a rhythm. You could count on The Walton’s to end with a chorus of “good nights.” Carol Burnett would sign off by tugging on her earring. And you always knew what was being served up at the diner on the sitcom “Alice”. The saucy and wise waitress Flo would unfailingly deliver the ultimate comeback to Mel’s grouchy commentary by saying, “Kiss My Grits!” Her hand-on-hip delivery allowed me to rest assured that all was right with the world.
Artist John Baeder knows where to go to get “Adam and Eve on a raft“. His subjects are wide-ranging but his distinguished career as a photorealist and painter of roadside dining establishments has defined a category.

The American Building is in my neighborhood. The sign is gone now, though. It was a cool piece of signage. Glad the artist captured it.
Hats off to John Baeder! I think I have seen some of these places – or is that the clever illusion??? And your post is so clever Artstormer. I am craving eggs and reindeer sausage right now. Please let me know when you are coming to Paris.
