“Close Up” Paintings by Kim Dong-yoo
Efforts to restore and preserve classic movie theaters have been noble across the country. In our city, the Belcourt Theatre has garnered support and now shows a variety of films that might not otherwise be available on the big screen. Add the fact that you can enjoy a glass of wine along with your Hot Tamales, and you’ve got a concept that can draw an audience.
I’m afraid that the era of true Hollywood glamour is a distant memory. Artist Kim Dong-yoo pieces together his own interpretation of the “close up”. His head shots within a head shot won’t end up on the cutting room floor.
