“Twist and Shout” Crochet Portraits by Jo Hamilton
Out of town visitors arrived yesterday and at that very moment, the electricity went out in our house. Fortunately, we had planned to grill steak. Crisis averted.
Artist Jo Hamilton knows how to keep things loose. Her crocheted portraits are twisted and fun.

GREAT catch!!!! fixed! Thank you so much!
I did go to Jo Hamilton’s website. You’re right: the video of the crochet process is pretty cool. Also, Jo Hamilton is a woman! We need to change our pronouns!!
Not sure the answer to that….his website might shed some some light…the link is on the post…also, if you search on VIMEO his name there is a fantastic video of his process. thank you for your comments!
These are so cool! Thanks for sharing 🙂
What I like about Hamilton’s portraits is the effect of dimension he achieves through crochet. From what I can tell from the above images, he’s using only single chain stitch. Dimension must come from a combo of color choice and crocheting free-form. Compelling!
I would love to know how he surmounts the problem of color. Does he rely solely on the color ways provided by the manufacturer? Or is he mixing and dying his own?
How inspiring! So glad I stumbled upon your site. It’s always so good to feast on artworks. Thankyou.
Another interesting find! Thanks for sharing.
