“Spirographia” Watercolors by Robert Lansden

I can’t help but think that many of the artists I encounter are on the verge of a nervous breakdown.  I’m only an armchair psychologist, but the patience and repetition exhibited by some of these folk make me wonder if they aren’t coping with some disturbing inner voice.  Demons or not, I’m soothed by the work of artist Robert Lansden who takes no shortcuts while painting these lovely large-scale works.  Mesmerizing.

  1. Thank you for the clarification. In any scale the images are quite comforting. I like the metaphors. The building blocks, the circles of life – some intersecting and some alone, the nuances of color (i.e. shades of gray). Looks like an ecosystem. A family tree. A terrarium. Periodic table.

  2. Madness and genius are divided by a fine line. Sometimes when you show over-sized art you included some ruler or known work that we can compare against the art. That might help here as you describe the art as “large-scale”. Are these paintings the size of a (i) toaster-oven, (ii) refrigerator or (iii) broad side of a barn?
