“Dream Catcher” Paintings by Ilya Zomb

DelawareWaterGap

I’m not a big sleeper.   I have NO trouble going to sleep, my challenge is staying there. Apparently, we need to cycle through lots of REM to give our brains and bodies a break, which includes lots of dreaming.  In my case, there are all sorts of contributors to the problem including what is known as “sleep hygiene”.  This has nothing to do with clean sheets.  Rather, it is the temptations of technology: tv, cell phone, ipad, laptop, that are always ready to entertain me when I’m even slightly stirred from slumber.  I’m working on it.

Russian-born painter Ilya Zomb knows how to catch a dream.  His subjects are depicted in implausible scenes, often frolicking with wildlife.  Viewing them is hypnotic but far from soporific.

  1. These remind me of a much more benign Bosch- in the tonality and slightly taxidermic vibe. Love the gal in the leotard!

  2. oh, i love his work, i’ve never seen any of it before, thanks for sharing it. like you, i struggle to stay asleep, it’s an ongoing battle )

  3. These are wonderful!!! Makes me want to dance with fruit and birds. The detail is so fine and the colors are joyous. I think I want them. Well done!
