My mother just returned from Santa Fe where she attended the Indian Market.  This New Mexican jewel is one of the great places in America that has  retained an architectural personality.  I can think of few others…Charleston, Savannah, San Francisco, St. Augustine, Nantucket, and of course, my very favorite New Orleans.   Most of these places went through economic cycles of boom and bust.  Poor economies save buildings, robust economies build new.  Perhaps there is a silver lining to this recession, at least for the preservationist.

Artist Greg Gandy  preserves the city on canvas.
