“Twisted Serpent” guards the entrance to the garden

This weekend we visited our dear friend Mandy Barbara in Cincinnati, Ohio.   She is one of my best “art scouts” having previously put me on to several popular posts including typewriter artist, Paul Smith and light artist Stephen Knapp.

Mandy’s reputation as a “picker” is completely intact following Saturday’s visit to the garden atelier of sculptor Marjorie Pease Applegate.  A nonagenarian, Marjorie is just hitting her stride.  Her medium?  Limestone and other menacingly difficult rocks.  Her method? Hand-carving.   Just like Leonardo.

Her body of work tells a story of artistic vision and unreasonable patience.  She literally just keeps chipping away at it.  #Inspiring.

More of Marjorie’s work can be viewed HERE.
