“Paint Jobs” Paintings by Derick Smith

Recently, I’ve become interested in a material called “Fordite“.  Sometimes called “Detroit agate” or “Motor agate” it is old automobile paint which has hardened sufficiently to be cut and polished.  It was formed by the buildup of layers of enamel paint on skids where cars were hand painted in the old days.

Artist Derick Smith captures the same idea in his paintings but his work is hardly “assembly line”
